Curated Treasury: "Love and Marriage"

Our featured Etsy treasury for today is curated by Debra Boudreau, from the Etsy shop BoudreauCollection, located in Pasadena, CA.

What do you do if, after a lifelong search, you find, and marry, the love of your life. Then, shortly after the wedding, you discover ... The Basement.

If you're Debra Boudreau, you open the Etsy shop BoudreauCollection.

"Shortly after the wedding he mentioned that, carefully packed and stored beneath his hundred-year-old Craftsman house, was a treasure trove. He and his late wife had spent years traveling, searching and collecting in pursuit of their shared dream of opening an antique store. They never got around to opening that store but, judging by that basement, they certainly could have!

"As a museum executive, a history buff - and, yes, a fellow collector - I set about the task of opening those basement doors, freeing those wonderful treasures from storage and sending them back out into the world.

That is what you’ll find in the BoudreauCollection (along with some antiques of my own) as I endeavor to combine the households of two lifelong collectors. The task has proven to be both daunting and a great deal of fun. Please take a look!"

The BoudreauCollection is a magnificently curated variety of items. Debra has brought together everything from tramp art, to elegant Czech glass. Inside the BoudreauCollection, you will even find Victorian items living happily side-by-side with exceptional modern pieces.

Here is just a small sampling of the items you will find when you visit BoudreauCollection.

Curated Treasury: "The Quaintness Of Affection"

Our featured Etsy treasury for today is curated by Sophia, from the Etsy shop MadrinaSofia, located in San Francisco, CA.

Sophia is the owner, maker, designer, and curator of MadrinaSofia. (As well as the photographer, marketer, packager, and shipper.) Sophia creates handmade jewelry using wire and precious and semi-precious gemstones. Through MadrinaSofia, Sophia creates pieces that, "[A]waken and enhance a woman's spirit."

"My shop is named after my great-grandmother and godmother, Sofia, while my work is inspired by her. She had the most beautiful wooden curio cabinet in her adobe home that displayed an enchanting collection of jewels ~ beautiful antique wooden and glass rosaries, turquoise jewelry and small statues of Catholic saints...a magical world in the eyes of a little girl."

As a teenager, Sophia recalls, she would save her lunch money in order to purchase beads at a local bead shop. Countless hours were spent creating necklaces and earrings, fusing vintage jewelry with beads.

Nearly twenty years after Sophia created jewelry as a teenager, she discovered Etsy, where she was immediately drawn to some ruby gemstone beads. Upon seeing those beautiful gemstones, Sophia recalled how much she enjoyed making jewelry, and her love of jewelry making was rekindled. Sopia brings her passion, and love, of jewelry making to MadrinaSofia.

"This time around I found myself gravitating towards these lovely ruby gemstones - not just for their apparent beauty but for the way they made me feel working with them and wearing them. It is like nothing else. I took a couple of classes and purchased every book about gemstones and wire wrapping I could get my hands on. I spent countless hours experimenting with wire and made a plethora of mistakes but I also learned quite a bit in the process. I also went to every bead and gemstone show in the Bay Area where I spent a little more than my lunch money....My curiosity didn't subside - I also became enthralled in researching the meanings and healing properties behind these gemstones. The more information I found out in my research and the more pieces I created, the more I felt my great-grandmother and Godmother's presence and guidance. Her spirit is with me in the studio...."

Curated Treasury: "Brave: the Bend in the River"

Our featured Etsy treasuryfor today is curated by Yvette Pederson, from the Etsy shop YForYou, located in Sitka, AK.

Yvette is the owner, maker, designer, curator, and photographer of YForYou. Using the color inspirations of gemstone, silk and velvet, Yvette crafts gemstone wrap bracelets and friendship bracelets, silk applique and velvet pillows, gem topped hairpins, chain and bead necklaces, and unique earrings. YForYou also offers soy candles and rustic chalkboards — all created with you in mind.

"Color is usually what gets me inspired, and started on a project. Just looking at my collection of beads, or fabric, will draw my eye and imagination, and helps generate an idea. I love nature, and the world of color, and these alone fill me with continuous ideas for new projects."

Yvette has been a crafter for many years, creating everything from her children's clothes, quilts, and moccasins, to knitted items, velvet bags, and beadwork. Yvette has always been passionate about creating, and she brings that passion to YForYou.

"Creating comes from desire, necessity, and inspiration. Many, and most, items that I have created come from a desire to have something unique, and something that is 'me' — such as my wrap bracelets. There are hundreds on the market but I wanted one that wasn't out there, so I made one. I love pillows, but also wanted something different than what can be found in local stores. Everything in my shop is something that I love and want to have."

Here is just a small sampling of the items you will find when you visit Yvette at YForYou.

Please take the time to browse YForYou on Etsy.

We also encourage you to take the time to visit the shops of the artists featured in this treasury, explore the variety of their work, and learn more about them.

Curated Treasury: "Hard to ignore ..."

"It's in my DNA ... this love of color and texture ... and the magic is in the details."
~ Pam Robinson - CoolJewelryDesign

Today's treasury is curated by Pam Robinson, from the Etsy shop CoolJewelryDesign, located in North Atlanta, GA.

Through CoolJewelryDesign, Pam Robinson invites you into her, "[C]ool world of bohemian beaded jewelry ... modern beaded jewelry ... wire wrapped and often organic natural stone jewelry." CoolJewelryDesign features one of a kind, wearable art for "independent thinkers", and designs to fit any lifestyle.

CoolJewelryDesign's goal, as Pam states it, is,

"To be the creator/designer of one of a kind (OOAK) jewelry for you. 98% of my jewelry will fall into that category. No outsourcing of any kind.

"To offer a wide range of products, styles, and prices that will appeal to an audience of women who love a boho/mod look, maybe romantic, simple, etc., AND you will hear me speak of 'crossover' in many design descriptions ... and why? Because one piece of jewelry can overlap into more than one style."

Pam describes herself as a, "Jersey girl who transferred to North Atlanta with a corporate job in 1990 ... looking back (as we tend to do) , leaving a house on the water ... well, no do-overs. Absent minded animal lover who enjoys great food and wine...and jewelry!"

"I was artistic as a child, drawing, painting, designing ... and then as all women do ... morphed into this LOVER of jewelry (as opposed to shoes or handbags, for example). And I know my grandmother, who was a zany creative woman, is at the heart of this.

"When I moved from NJ <sigh> to Atlanta, somehow I discovered Etsy (years ago) ... and mused 'why can't ... I ...do this?' <<and I thought I was so original--making jewelry--as though so few people did that. Oh my gosh, just the reverse.

"So I taught myself and evolved over time, with an end result of absolutely adoring COLOR and texture. Always on the bohemian side, independent, owning my own look, etc., I reach out to kindred souls who can appreciate being a bit different. This is a passion and I am completely grateful to have found this path later in life."

Curated Treasury: "black and gold"

Today's treasury is curated by Susan, from the Etsy shop CalloohCallay from St. Louis, MO.

CalloohCallay features unique gifts including vintage home decor and housewares, vintage button jewelry, vintage accessories and luggage, vintage books and postcards, vintage jewelry, industrial and rustic items, and much more

Susan is the owner, designer, photographer, "Hunter And Gatherer", researcher, and fashionista behind CalloohCallay.

"The name Callooh Callay was happily borrowed from Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky, a poem in Through the Looking Glass. 'And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! He chortled in his joy.'

Callooh Callay is all about the joy of discovery--that moment when you round the corner at the flea market and find the perfect Art Deco statue, or cobalt blue hat, or vintage bellows camera. I bring an eclectic mix, culled from my personal collection and from sales around the Midwestern United States."

Susan has been selling on Etsy through CalloohCallay for more than seven years. In that time, she has sent an Olive Oyl marionette to a toy museum in South Korea; cocktail hats for weddings in New Zealand; rustic wood carvings to downtown Manhattan; teacups to Kuwait; and one-of-a-kind vintage button jewelry all over the world.

"I still smile thinking of my red, white, and blue pillbox hat on the streets of Bangkok."

CalloohCallay offers a changing selection of vintage and antique items, including hats, purses, books, postcards, toys, housewares, jewelry, architectural salvage, and home decor. To this rich collage, Susan add her own jewelry, fashioned from vintage buttons, pocket knives, and other bits and bobs she has picked up along the way.
